Hello! It’s Ollie, Cabin Radio’s editor, with a special update.
The reason for all the exclamation points: Cabin Radio’s public hearing for an FM licence to broadcast in Yellowknife is coming up next week.
This is obviously a huge deal for us. It’s the furthest we have managed to advance the FM licensing process so far (after SIX years). But nothing is guaranteed.
If you can, come out and show your support.
The CRTC will hold the hearing at Yellowknife’s Explorer Hotel starting at 10am each day on Tuesday, February 11 and Wednesday, February 12.
Even popping in for half an hour will be a big boost to us, so we can see some friendly faces as we make our case. We’re hoping the CRTC recognizes the public interest in having Cabin Radio on the FM dial and the more people show up, the more that might sink in.
Note that you can’t speak at the public hearing if you didn’t already request to do so. But you can definitely applaud any presentations you enjoy. I also suggested people could bring vuvuzelas but apparently those are frowned upon.
Importantly, it’s not just Cabin Radio presenting. Vista Radio, which operates 100.1 True North FM in Yellowknife, is asking the CRTC for a second licence to serve the city. You should come out no matter which of those applications you support.
More information is available on our website. If you have questions about our application and what we’re proposing, leave a comment on Substack or email me.
And once again, thanks to the hundreds of you who wrote letters of support and filed written interventions. Every one of those helps us along the road.
What an important moment.. This Community is hear to support you...
Thank you for all you provide... It makes a difference...
Cheers
